are…”In the criminal justice system…”
I swear to god - I hear those words and my Pavlovian response is to sink my ass deeper into the couch and stare. I used to be an original (”O.G.”) Law & Order purest, but lately I’ve been sucked (and I do mean sucked) into the bowels of that unit we call, “special.” (DUN! DUN!)
SVU never did anything for me in the past. I was always left wondering - hey, jerks! Where’s the frickin’ “Law” part? Or is it order? I’m never sure which is which. Anyway - my point is, the original has that soothing (DUN DUN!) formula. You know that at half-past the hour you’ll be seeing some Sam Waterston being cranky and hashing out the case with any one of his unbearably skinny brunette cohorts. (Or if the eppie is rockin’ it old school you might get some Michael Moriarty and that guy from The Crow II). (DUN! DUN!)
Lately though, I’ve been completely seduced by Mariska Hargitay’s overacting, Ice-T’s underacting and Christopher Meloni and Richard Belzer’s general awesomeness. (Even though Belzer’s “Munch” character in no way reflects its original portrayal on Homicide.)
(DUN! DUN!)
Overall, I think SVU could still use a little more “Law” or is it “Order?” but, that didn’t stop me from watching 6 straight hours of it yesterday, now did it? Nope. No ma’am. (The NAMBLA episode was particularly suh-weet).
(DUN! DUN!)
